Stud Profile - Kerrah Simmentals
Owner Details Background Also comprises a satellite farm (Satellite Farm: Alastair and Kay Miln). Kerrah Simmentals has a keen interest in genetics and desire to improve profitability at Tangiwai Station inspired the purchase and amalgamation of the elite cows from Puriri, Ailsa G.R. and Rissington Studs in 2005. This added to the best of our own grade cows created one of the largest recorded herds of Simmentals in Australasia. Stud Focus The aim at Kerrah is to breed easy calving, docile, productive, low maintenance cattle that will enhance profitability. We are committed to producing functional cattle for todays farming practices in a commercial hill country environment and the dairy industry. We have lines of traditional, polled and black Simmentals. Number of Cows 560 wintered (750 RWB) including mated yearling heifers all fully recorded on Group Breedplan. Number of Sires used 16 - 20 sires used annually including top yearlings bulls. Size and contour of farm Tangiwai Station is 2100 ha (1500ha effective) mostly steep hill country rising from 700 - 2300a.s.l.at Wairoa. This is run in conjunction with a 110 ha lease block. Other Stock in farming operation 5800 ewes, 2000 pregnant hoggets, 1100 dry hoggets, 300 ram hoggets, 252 R1yr heifers and 70R 1yr bulls plus another 60 R1yr bulls at the Satellite Farm at Kimbolton.
